INTERMODELLBAU Dortmund 2016
The INTERMODELLBAU 2016 in Dortmund, the world's largest trade fair for model building and model sports, took place in the Westfalenhallen on April 20th to 24th. Reinhard Weber, online journalist from Modellpilot.EU, was there and presents you his 30-minute full-HD film to INTERMODELLBAU. Spectacular indoor aerobatics and a short outdoor flight show at the Rote Erde stadium with Reinhard Weber.
INTERMODELLBAU successfully presented itself in 2016 and closed with a steady 82,000 visitors. From 20 to 24 April, 549 exhibitors from 19 countries showed what they have to offer, also at the co-located exhibition EXPERTEC, the expert forum for active model aircraft flyers (22 - 24 April). Sabine Loos, CEO of Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH, says, “As promised by the new exhibition logo, INTERMODELLBAU presented the whole world of model-making. The wide variety of subjects has again attracted a high number of visitors, from outside of Germany as well. Trendy topics like FPV racing or ‘Future: Technology’ gave the exhibition new, additional impulses.”
One thing hasn’t changed: INTERMODELLBAU continues to be a magnet for model-makers throughout the international scene. In 2016, nearly every fifth visitor travelled to the exhibition from outside of Germany. Visitors hailed from Belgium, Denmark, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA, and more. This was the finding of a visitor survey conducted by an independent exhibition market research institute.
The German Model Flying Association (DMFV) also felt that INTERMODELLBAU and EXPERTEC had been a success. DMFV vice president Ludger Katemann said, “We were overwhelmed by the crowds of interested exhibition visitors at our stand. People were actively seeking information.” Katemann emphasised that INTERMODELLBAU is the “exhibition hot spot” for launching into a great aeromodelling season.
The focus of DMFV’s exhibition activities this year was its campaign “Pro Modellflug” (www.pro-modellflug.de). The association collected lots of signatures. Ludger Katemann says, “We have
set an example here for preserving aeromodelling in its form to date in Germany.”
Exhibitors achieved good sales at INTERMODELLBAU 2016. More than 90 percent of the businesses surveyed stated that their expectations for the exhibition had been fully or partly fulfilled, in some cases even surpassed.
Nine out of ten visitors said that they would like to visit INTERMODELLBAU again the following year. And 88 percent of exhibitors want to return as well. In 2017, INTERMODELLBAU will be taking place from 5 to 9 April. EXPERTEC is scheduled for 7 to 9 April.
INTERMODELLBAU 2016 - What exhibitors are saying
- Werner Stark from the Sales Department at Graupner/SJ:
“We were pleased with the exhibition. Our race copters were the icing on the programme cake this year. They attract lots of newcomers, not only classic model-makers. There was a high demand for our products.”
- Peter Kratz, Sales Manager at KRICK
“We are very satisfied with INTERMODELLBAU 2016 and gained some good contacts. Many visitors were from foreign countries. We introduced our new products here. Some were even presented in
live demonstrations in the adjacent water basin. This is a good combination.”
