The Antoinette VII was a French monoplane from 1909. The Antoinette VII was one of the first aircraft to be successfully built in series. With their immediate predecessor, Antoinette IV, an attempt was made to fly over the English Channel first.
Société Antoinette was founded in 1904 by Léon Levavasseur. Levavasseur was actually concerned with boat engines. The excellent 8-cylinder Antoinette V engine, one of the most important aircraft engines in early aviation, was developed on the basis of these engines.
From 1908, Levavasseur then built his own aircraft. The Antoinette I – III were replicas of other machines. From Antoinette IV, Levavasseur constructed his famous Antoinette monoplanes, which had a boat-like hull. With the Antoinette VII, he switched the control of the aircraft from aileron to wing twist. The machine made its first flight on April 17, 1909. Hubert Latham had just become chief pilot at Société Antoinette.
